Ever noticed food cooking faster in the middle of the pan, or heat feeling harder to control?
Here’s the good news: it’s not your pan, and it’s not complicated. Solidteknics pans work beautifully on all heat sources.
Burners heat the area directly underneath the pan, and the pan then spreads that heat across its base. When a burner is smaller or larger than the pan, heat simply spreads at a different pace, which just means adjusting your heat or timing slightly.
Alongside the right balance of heat and fats or oils, using a reasonably matched burner is one of the simplest ways to improve cooking results, especially with our highly conductive wrought iron and stainless steel cookware. And even when the match isn’t ideal, gentle heat and a little patience are all you need for even, reliable cooking.
The tips below will help make cooking more even, predictable, comfortable, and energy-efficient.

Solidteknics pans work on any burner. Appropriately matching the burner size helps heat spread more evenly across the entire base of the pan, for more even cooking results.
Burners heat the area directly underneath your pan, and the pan then spreads that heat across its base. How evenly this happens can vary depending on the size of the burner and the type of heat source (gas, electric, induction).
When the burner is much smaller or much larger than the pan, heat spreads at a different pace. This can lead to:
Uneven cooking
Food cooking faster or burning in the centre
Sticking (a heat control issue — never a pan issue)
Slower heat-up times
Wasted energy and less precise temperature control
A quick note on hotspots:
In well-constructed single-piece pans like ours, hotspots don’t come from the pan itself. They originate from the heat source beneath — most often when heat is applied too quickly, the burner is poorly matched, or the stovetop delivers uneven heat (something that can occur on lower-quality cooktops, including some induction models).

Short answer - YES.
The only trade-off is time, not performance. Solidteknics pans are designed to work on all heat sources. When a burner is smaller than the pan, heat simply takes longer to spread across the base — that’s just physics, not a limitation of the pan.
The key is simple: start low, preheat patiently, and let the pan do the work.
Start on low heat
Allow a longer preheat
Increase heat gradually
Cook on low to medium-low
Avoid cranking the heat to rush things
Given time, heat will naturally even out and cooking becomes predictable and consistent.
Food can cook faster in the centre if heat is rushed. This usually happens when the heat is turned up too quickly before the pan has fully preheated.
Slower, gentler preheating gives heat time to spread evenly — and makes all the difference.
Burn marks (more noticeable on stainless steel) are cosmetic only and easily fixed with a good scrub. Our pans are forever renewable.

What you might notice
When a burner is wider than the pan’s base, heat can creep up the sides instead of staying underneath. This can make cooking feel harder to control and less energy efficient overall.
Why it happens
Large burners deliver heat faster and over a wider area. On a smaller pan, that extra heat doesn’t have anywhere useful to go, so control matters more.
What helps
If you need to use a larger burner, it’s completely workable with a little care:
Keep the heat low
Let the pan heat gradually
Avoid blasting the burner
Take care when handling the pan, as sidewalls and handles can get hotter than expected.
This won’t be as efficient as a closer match, but it keeps heat where it belongs — under the base — and maintains control.

This is the sweet spot and the best burner size for your frying pan.
When the burner is roughly similar to the pan’s base, you’ll notice:
Faster, more even cooking
Better browning and searing
More efficient energy use
Less sticking and easier clean-up
Aim for “close enough,” not perfect. Take a look at our Burner Element Size Guide below: it shows how heat tends to spread across a pan based on burner size.
Measure the diameter of your burner (or the active coil on induction).
Check the stove-contact surface listed on each Solidteknics product page (under Dimensions).
Aim for a burner that’s slightly smaller than the pan’s contact base, or the closest available option.
Always place the pan in the centre of the burner for the most even heat.

Example:
A 30 cm pan with a 24 cm stove-contact surface pairs beautifully with an 18–22 cm burner. Smaller burners will still work, you'll just need a little more time to preheat your pan.
A few helpful tips:
Gas: Flame height and spread matter as much as burner size. Choose a flame pattern that sits within the base of the pan.
Induction: The printed circle is often not the coil size. Choose the largest coil that fits fully under the pan.
Electric: Generally even and forgiving, be sure to centre the pan and heat gradually.

Different cooktops deliver heat in slightly different ways, but Solidteknics pans are designed to work beautifully on all of them.
The key rule is simple: centre the pan over the heat source and heat gradually.
Gas flames spread unevenly, so flame height and spread matter more than the burner ring itself. Aim for a flame pattern that mostly sits within the base of the pan, and centre the pan over the flame — not just the grate.
Tip:
If your gas burner is smaller than your pan, a diffuser plate or trivet can help spread heat more gently. It’s also great for simmering, low-and-slow cooking, and avoiding scorch marks on stainless steel.

Electric radiant elements tend to provide a more consistent and predictable heat area than gas. Because the heat comes from a solid element rather than an open flame, temperature tends to be steadier and more even across the base of the pan. Centre the pan and allow it to heat gradually for best results.
Induction can deliver very fast, intense heat, so gentle preheating is especially important, particularly if the burner and pan aren’t a close match. Start low, heat gradually, and let the pan come up to temperature evenly.
Note: On many induction cooktops, the printed circle doesn’t reflect the size of the active coil underneath. If you’re unsure which zone to use, choose the burner with the largest coil that still fits comfortably within the pan’s base.

Burner size helps, but gentle heat and adequate preheating matter more.
Our pans are highly conductive, which means you rarely need more than medium heat (medium really is the new high).
Most sticking or burning comes down to three simple things being out of balance:
Burner size
Heat control
Fat or oil use
When these three are working together, Solidteknics pans perform beautifully, even on a less-than-ideal burner.
The basics are simple:
Let the pan preheat for a few minutes, add your oil, wait for the oil to heat, then add your ingredients (and don’t flip until the food releases naturally).
All our pans are engineered with just the right amount of concave so the metal can expand as it heats. This won’t affect even heating, and oil pooling when the pan is cold is completely normal.
Proper preheating helps to:
Prevent sticking
Create better browning and searing
Help food release naturally on non-coated pans like ours
Support stronger seasoning development (iron).
Understanding how burner size affects heat distribution can make cooking easier and more efficient. While burner size does influence how heat spreads, gentle heat control and patience time matters far more.
With this in mind, Solidteknics pans can adapt to any size burner.
As a simple guide:
Smaller burner → preheat slowly
Larger burner → keep the heat gentle and controlled
Close match → easiest and most efficient energy method.
For an ideal fit, choose the burner closest in diameter to your pan’s base, or the next size down. And if you can’t, just adjust your heat a little. That’s it.
Our seamless wrought iron and stainless steel pans are engineered for real cooking: highly conductive, forever renewable, and built without synthetic coatings.
Use what you have, cook with care, and let your pan do the rest.
